A swarm is shaped around its problem. A flock is shaped by the wind it flies in; an ant colony by the ground it tunnels. Change the niche and the swarm changes shape, because the shape is the answer to the niche.
A colony of minds is no different, and its niche is its hardware. Ours is built around its silicon, not bolted on top of whatever was lying around. The two training cards were consolidated into a single sealed box and lifted out of everyday reach, because the longest-running job and the most-restarted service must not share a chassis. The machines with no remote management got a physical power switch an agent can throw, because a mind that can wedge a node must be able to un-wedge it. The store that swallows data exists because a mind should be able to make a record it cannot later erase.
None of that is decoration. Each piece is the hardware answering a question the minds kept asking. This is why you cannot clone a colony by copying its code: the code is the cast, and the hardware is the mould. A colony is not software running on infrastructure. It is an organism grown to its own silicon — and a different problem, on different metal, would grow a different colony.
